When Does a Tooth Need a Filling?
When decay has attacked the enamel, the affected area needs to be removed and the tooth rebuilt. The earlier this happens, the smaller the procedure remains. Old, leaky fillings or chipped tooth edges can be repaired this way too.
Our goal is always: preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible and only replace what's truly missing.
Materials & Options
Composite Fillings
The standard material in our practice. Composite is tooth-coloured, modelled directly in the mouth, and cured with light. The result looks natural and lasts many years with good care. Composite fillings are covered by insurance.
Ceramic Inlays & Onlays
For larger defects, we recommend ceramic inlays or onlays. These are individually crafted in the laboratory and precisely fitted. Ceramic is particularly durable, aesthetic, and biologically very well tolerated.
Replacing Old Fillings
We replace old amalgam fillings or leaky restorations safely and carefully. We make sure to sacrifice as little healthy substance as possible. The result: a tooth that looks whole again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is getting a filling painful?
No. The tooth is numbed beforehand — you won't feel anything during treatment. For very small fillings, anaesthesia sometimes isn't even necessary. We discuss this together before we begin.
How long does a filling last?
Composite fillings typically last 5 to 10 years, often longer. Ceramic inlays can last 15 years and more. How long exactly depends on the size of the defect, its position in the mouth, and your care.
Why no more amalgam?
Amalgam contains mercury and is rarely used anymore for health and aesthetic reasons. Modern composite materials are tooth-coloured, metal-free, and now very good in terms of durability. In our practice, we work exclusively metal-free.
